Vote for Houdini!

Mr X

The NHL All Star Game is quickly approaching upon us - January 25th at Bell Centre - and now you can vote for your favorite starting line-ups.

No Zetterberg, I know, it was between him and Hejduk and since the Czech has begun this season so good I couldn't deny him. Either way the top three Western Conference-forwards are Zetterberg, Datsyuk and Hossa in that order, so no harm no foul.

Long time no see...Quick recap

  • Nov. 16th, 2008 at 2:49 PM
Zäta & Houdini

The russians continues to dominate the league. The two most frequent point-scorers so far are Pens' Evgeni Malkin and the big positive "surprise" of the season Capitals' Alexander Semin. If you look at some of the russians that have gotten a some-what "slow" start, you will probably be able to add Pavel Datsyuk, Ilya Kovalchuck & Alex Oveckhin 'til the top ten before the 82 games are played.

A few teams have disappointed me so far. The biggest might be Dallas Stars. The team has an enormous amount of talent and should be able to grasp a playoff-spot quite easy, but instead they're 14th in the Western Conference with only St. Louis Blues behind them. I especially blame goalie Marty Turco who has been terrible.

Also Ottawa Senators, they have been on a downhill spiral since their Stanley Cup loose two seasons ago. The pizza-line hasn't delivered in time and something drastic needs to happen if this club is gonna make the top eight in the east.

Philadelphia Flyers is another team which I thought would be a real contender for the top-spots this season but haven't produced in the way I imagined. However they have started to pick up some steam and with red-hot, back-in-action Simon Gagne I can't see this team anywhere else but in the east's top four.

My underdog pick of the season, Chicago Blackhawks, have impressed me in the same way Pittsburgh Penguins did a couple of seasons ago. Pat Kane and Pat Sharp are deadly quick and with some help from Havlat and young captain Toews this is a team I still have much faith in.

Leading the league with an impressive 29 points does the San José Sharks, but they won't win the Cup in June, it's as simple as that!.

I of course have to mention the raining champion Detroit. Despite their "hung-over" from last season, they continues to impress, picking up speed when they need to. The new-comer Marian Hossa leads the team in scoring and with a fellow line-mate like Houdini there's no doubt, he will get over 50 goals this season FO' SHOW.

Pasha's first goal of the season, "a thing of beauty":

Beyoncé's "I am...Sasha Fierce"

5/10

Disc 1: I Am…
1. "If I Were a Boy"
2. "Halo"
3. "Disappear"

T-Pain's Thr33 Ringz

2/10

Även låten "Change" är bottenlöst dålig, den inleds med att T-Pain butchar Claptons "Change the World" and goes downhill(!) from there.

Låten förstörs dock ändå pga T-Pain "geniala" refräng;
"Like 1,2,3,4 get the hell up out my door
5,6,7,8 I don't need your sex, I'll masturbate
9,10,11,12 you can go to hell all I care, yeah"
Songwriter of the year, nja.

1. "Welcome to Thr33 Ringz Intro"
2. "Ringleader Man"
3. "Chopped & Skrewed" (feat. Ludacris)
4. "Take a Ride (Skit)"

6. "Blowing Up" (feat. Ciara)

Q-Tip's The Renaissance

  • Nov. 3rd, 2008 at 12:14 PM
Mr X
9/10

Men Kamaal the Abstract remains the same.

1. "Johnny Is Dead"
2. "Won't Trade"
3. "Gettin' Up"
4. "Official"
5. "You"
6. "We Fight/We Love" (feat. Raphael Saadiq)
7. "Manwomanboogie" (feat. Amanda Diva)
8. "Move"
9. "Dance on Glass"
10. "Life Is Better" (feat. Norah Jones)
11. "Believe" (feat. D'Angelo)
12. "Shaka"

"Move"
Sampling: Jackson Fives "Dancing Machine"
Fun fact: Video är näst intill identisk med MJs "Rock With You"

John Legend's Evolver

6/10

André 3000), "It's Over" (feat.

1. "Good Morning Intro"
2. "Green Light" (feat. André 3000)
3. "It's Over" (feat. Kanye West)
4. "Everybody Knows"
5. "Quickly" (feat. Brandy)
6. "Cross The Line"
7. "No Other Love" (feat. Estelle)
8. "This Time"
9. "Satisfaction"
10. "Take Me Away"
11. "Good Morning"
12. "I Love, You Love"
13. "If You're Out There"
14. "Can't Be My Lover"
Bonus: "It's Over" (Remix)

Förvandlingen (1915)

  • Oct. 29th, 2008 at 6:42 PM
The Thinker

Förvandlingen (novell)
Franz Kafka (1883-1924)
Betyg: 9/10

SPOILER ALERT!

30 teams - 15 matches

  • Oct. 26th, 2008 at 12:46 PM
Mr X
Yesterday we had a rare complete round of NHL-hockey. All 30 teams were active and here are some short summarizes from what I believe were the most interesting match-ups.

Blackhawks - Red Wings 5-6 SO
Hossa scored once again for the Wings and the Slovakian now has 11 points (4+7), leading the team. Other whom scored for the defending champion were Russian magician Pavel Datsyuk and of course a couple of swedes.
Blackhawks continues relying on youngsters Kane & Toews, but last night the "old-timers" Havlat and Sharp also chipped in. 5-5 after regulation + extra 5, in the shootout only Kane scored for the hometeam, were both Datsyuk & Hossa scored for Motown giving them the extra point.

Capitals - Stars 6-5 OT
Veteran Sigge Fedorov scored twice for the Caps, the for now best player in the NHL Alexander ,no not Oveckhin, Semin also contributed with the GWG and two assist. The Superstar of the team Oveckhin continues having trouble scoring and only got an assist in the game. On the other side of the ice Brunnstrom scored his fifth and Modano his fourth (he also had two assist).
Loui Eriksson had 1+1 and so did Sean Avery.

*Who would have thought that Brooks Laich would have more points than fellow team-mate Alex Oveckhin eight games into the season?

Senators - Maple Leafs 2-3
The Leafs continues to impress with their great work-ethic, Ron Wilson really has brought out the best of his roster. Winning the Ontario-derby vs Senators is a huge win and the Leafs third straight game with at least one point.

Devils - Flyers 2-3 OT
After a terrible season-opening by the Broadstreet Bulies they now have two straight wins, both against fellow Atlantic division-member New Jersey.
However it looked like it was gonna be a breeze for the Flyers, leading 2-0 40 minutes in to the game. But the NJ came back forcing the game into overtime, were Jeff Carter scored the GWG.

Penguins - Rangers 2-3 SO
A rerun of last season's Eastern Conference semi-final, but this time Rangers won. As usual Rangers' goaltender Henrik Lundqvist was incredible (1st star of the game). Nikolai Zherdev scored with 8.1 seconds left in the third period, and Fredrik Sjostrom tallied the lone goal in an overtime shootout, as the first-place Rangers rallied from a 2-0 deficit for a dramatic 3-2 victory over Pittsburgh.

Five points from Mike Ribeiro

  • Oct. 24th, 2008 at 11:29 AM
Mr X

Stars won as I predicted against the Islanders and once again we saw why I think Mike Ribeiro is one of the most underrated offensive forces in the game.

When you talk about people whom are great at "setting up" for others you seldom hear or see Ribeiro's name mentioned. Thornton, Crosby, Datsyuk, Savard, Stastny, Spezza, Lecavailer, Gomez, Koivu and (team-mate) Richards are the most occurring names. But he should be in the mix, he's in my top three.

Since he left his hometown of Montreal and the Canadiens to join the Stars he has improved his game tremendously and last season's 83 points was a huge leap from the 06/07-season's 59. I believe that Ribeiro, Datsyuk and Crosby are the three guys in the league with the greatest "split vision", at least for the moment. And the THN had the nerve not to rank him among the 50 best in the league.

Flames: Iginla scored a hat-trick and the Flames beat the Predators with the score 5-3.

Canucks: One of the team's few stars, Pavol Demitra is out for 3-4 weeks with a rib-injury.

Coyotes: I ranked this team as a Playoff team and so far so good, tonight the youngsters from Arizona defeated mighty Alex and his Caps with 2-1.

Avalanche: The Avs has really picked up some steam and they got their fourth straight win tonight, beating the Oilers 4-1.

*Mikael Tellqvist got named tonight's third star after playing an incredible game in the Coyotes' net only letting in one of the Capitals 32 shots.

*Loui Eriksson scored twice in the Stars' 5-3 victory over the Islanders.

/Mr X

I found a winner

  • Oct. 23rd, 2008 at 10:50 PM
Mr X
Detroit won vs St. Louis and it was the swedes which lead Motown to victory.

*Homer has six goals in six games, might he go after Håkan Loob's swedish record of 50 goals in one season.

The Blackhawks took a comfortable win vs Edmonton and Quenneville has really turned the team around.

And if I may quote the genius of Ace Ventura/Jim Carrey; The bet fitted "like a glove".

My double for tonight's rumble is Islanders - Stars 2 and Bruins - Maple Leafs 1.

I'm quite confident that Dallas is going to win at Long Island, but Toronto impressed me when they came back from a 0-2 deficit against Anaheim so I'm a little nervous about Boston.

2nite's bet

  • Oct. 22nd, 2008 at 11:15 PM
Mr X
St. Louis Blues - Detroit Red Wings 2
A little birdie told me that Hank will be back in the red/white uniform and even though the Blues have a great record so far in the season, 4-1-0, I don't think they'll stand a chance vs the Big Red Machine. 1-4, 2-5 something like that.

Chicago Blackhawks - Edmonton Oilers 1
Two young and interesting teams will face each other in tonight's feature presentation and once again I'm going against the record. Edmonton have so far four straight wins, but with Blackhawks playing the momentum of new coach Quenneville and with Kane averaging three points per game! I can only see this game go one way.
Also Blackhawks' goaltending have been awesome, Huet and Khabibulin might be the best duo of goalies in the league, together with Carey Price and Jaroslav Halak in Habs.

Looking forward to the match-up Patrick Kane vs Sam Gangner, in my mind even more interesting than a Crosby - Oveckhin match-up.

/Mr X
Mr X
Watching the Maple Leafs - Ducks game and thought I should write a piece about one of the toughest coaches in the NHL - Ron Wilson.

Wilson is a guy that, like many british soccer-coaches, works with the idea of penalties and rewards.

Like for instant in Toronto's game vs Ducks, Stajan, Ponikarovsky & Antropov aren't playing their best game in the first period and he puts them in the dog-house, not many minutes on their account during the game's first 25 minutes.

He then make a line out of the three, so far miserable players, and give them a chance to prove them self, and boy do they ever. The "dog-house-line" creates an incredible pressure against J-S Guigere but don't score. He then let them rest for about 30 seconds then it's time again for the previous bench-warmers to play, and so on during the last ten minutes of the period. The line drags the rest of the team with 'em and with about eight minutes left of the second period Nik Antropov scores, bringing the Leafs just one behind the Ducks going into the last period. WILSON IS A MASTER OF WORKING THE MOMENTUM.

Tough love needless to say is the way to go according to the Leafs' head coach.

During yesterday's practice he told the players to "skate 'til I say stop."
He then waited 2 minutes and 34 seconds before blowing the whistle (an extremely long time), he then asked the rhetorical question;
"Does anyone know why I waited exactly 2.34 minutes?"
Pause...
"'Cause that was the length of one of Jason Blake's shifts yesterday - guys SHORTER SHIFTS!"

On a little lighter note:
A social-worker and a twelve year-old boy are having a conversation, the boy has been beaten by his father.
-Well, you can't live with your father, do you want to live with your mother?
-No, she'll beat me.
-With your grandparents?
-No, they'll beat me even harder.
-Where do you wanna live, then?
-With the Philadelphia Flyers, the don't beat anyone.

Boychuk sent back to WHL

  • Oct. 21st, 2008 at 1:31 PM
Mr X

Hurricanes: Youngster Zach Boychuck has been sent back to his previous club Lethbridge Hurricanes in the WHL, where he last season scored 72 points in 61 games.

Canadiens: The Habs extended their winning streak to five games with a 3-1 victory over the Panthers. Goalie Halak was named "first star of the game" and Koivu keeps on scoring.

Devils: NJ's Bobby Holik is expected to be side-lined during the coming 3-4 weeks due to a broken finger. Holik who returned to Devils after a few seasons in Rangers and Thrashers hasn't impressed during the beginning of the 08/09 season and has so far not scored a single point.

Möller's two points wasn't enough

  • Oct. 21st, 2008 at 1:18 PM
Mr X

19 year-old swede Oscar Möller scored his first NHL-goal and assisted to another one when the LA Kings took on Colorado at Pepsi Center.

However that wasn't enough to collect any points, Avalanche won the game with 4-3 and Ryan Smyth & Milan Hejduk continues to score goals in each and every game.

Stastny assisted to two of the Avs' goals and the 23 year-old has now ten points in six games.

Möller got chosen as the second star of the game and the young forward has three points in five games.

Three Stars of the Week

  • Oct. 21st, 2008 at 1:01 PM
Mr X

1. Thomas Vanek, Buffalo Sabers
Vanek was a huge disappointment last season when he "only" produced 64 points following up his previous 84-point season. He's one of the best payed players in the league and he should be in the top ten to earn his salary. Now he has begun this season great and has so far 9 points in five games (7 of which are goals).

2. Niklas Backstrom, Minnesota Wild
Backstrom has probably the most intelligent defensive-line in the league. Coach Jacques Lemaire is know for being a defensive wizard and therefore Backstrom gets a lot of help, not taking anything away from the goalie whom has begun great and sure deserves his star. 3-0-0, 1.30 and 95,2 is pretty good numbers.

3. Fabian Brunnström, Dallas Stars
Was side-lined during the first couple of games but proved coach Tippet wrong when he made a hat-trick in his first game. Playing with Brad Richards we can expect a lot more scoring from this 23 year-old swede.

The young guns brought out the big guns

  • Oct. 20th, 2008 at 12:56 PM
Mr X

Chicago took their second win of the season when they defeated the Canucks with a two goal marginal, 4-2.

This was only the second game for new Blackhawks-coach Quenneville, whom lost in his opening game vs the Blues. "I liked the response," Quenneville said. "It was a real emotional loss for us (in St. Louis). There's a big picture that's very bright here.

Blackhawks' Patrick Sharp and last year's Calder Trophy-winner Patrick Kane both had a three-point-game and the latter one has produced six points since Savard left as head coach (in just two games).

*Blackhawks' Swedish D-man Niklas Hjalmarsson missed his fifth straight game due to a rib injury.

Avs gets two in a row

  • Oct. 19th, 2008 at 11:33 AM
Mr X

The Avs was in a commanding lead over the Stars, 5-2, going into the last period.

But the last act was all about the boys from Texas, two quick goals (Eriksson & Richards) before we'd reached the six minute mark and it was well deserved.

Dallas continued their furious quest for an equalizer, but when it came from Cap. Morrow it was waved off.

5-4 and goalie (Turco) out for the Stars, but they couldn't catch up with Colroado , whom took their second straight win.

Hejduk has begun this season great, yesterday he scored twice bringing the total production to 5g in 5m. Perhaps he could top the Maurice Richard Trophy-year of 02/03 when he hit 50.

Even more important than Hejduk scoring twice was that Ryan Smyth got to celebrate his first goal of the season, a real in-your-face type of goal. His salary is the highest in the roster so it's important that he begins to pay of.

Semin is Caps new go-to-guy

The perhaps most interesting game last night was the one between Crosby's Penguins and Oveckhin's Capitals. But there were two other guys that stole the show.

Going into the last act Pens had a 3-1 lead, but when firm Semin & Nylander got to work the lead quickly vanished. Washington even scored a GWG before the third period was over. Those whom carried the team wasn't Oveckhin or overrated Backstrom, but Semin (whom I predicted gonna climb above the 100-mark this season), Nylander & always reliable D-man Mike Green (ice-time 27.06, most out of anyone). It didn't matter that Pens' Geno got three points because Pittsburgh got ZERO.

The winner from last season's Stanley Cup-final also took a bad beat last night. Homer scored and Pasha assisted so it looked like it usually do when Red Wings play hockey, but Canucks wouldn't give after. The Canadians won the last period bringing the game into OT, well there Alexander Burrows scored Vancouver's GW giving Cans the extra point.

Fun fact: Canucks won vs the defending Champions without a single contribution from the Sedins, that's like Yankees winning a ball-game without a single hit from A-Rod & Jeter.

*Marty collected his 97th shout-out when NJ won vs ATL with 1-0.

*The Avs took their first two-pointer after winning against, another struggling team Philadelphia Flyers with 5-2. Guess Sarah Palin wasn't the good-lucky charm they wanted in Wachovia Center.

Detroit's Henrik Zetterberg has a groin-injure and is gonna be out during tonight's game vs the Canucks and probably for the next ten days.

Coach Babcock;
-Even if it's a day-to-day injure, we aren't expecting him back in the line-up for about ten days.

Former Boforser scores hat-trick

Fabian Brunnström had been a healthy scratch during Dallas first two games of the season, but when the 23-year-old got the chance he sure took it.

In the Stars 6-4 victory vs Nashville he managed to become the third player in NHL-history to score a hat-trick in his first NHL-game.

From now on I believe that Dave Tippet is gonna think twice before sidelining the former Färjestader.
